CAD

Computer-aided detection

The large number of images produced by multislice CT scanners means that for radiologists, manual reading of large volumes of patient scan data is both time consuming and exhausting. The difficulty in identifying colonic polyps and distinguishing them from surrounding tissue means that a significant number may go undetected. Added to this, the differing levels of reader experience and training lead to significant inter and intra-reader variability with manual unassisted reading.

With the increasing demand for radiology services showing little sign of abating, radiologists are looking for technology such as computer-aided detection (CAD) to help relieve the burden.

Easier and earlier detection for an improved outcome

CAD systems are computerised algorithms designed to identify suspicious regions of interest on medical images. CAD aims to aid the radiologist in the detection of potential abnormalities by highlighting them for further investigation.

World leading performance

Medicsight's core technology is focused on developing computer aided detection algorithms and image analysis software tools for clinicians. Over the last few years, Medicsight's Research and Development team have developed industry leading image analysis and pattern recognition technology for the detection and measurement of lesions in medical image data.

A team of highly skilled researchers specialising in different fields of image processing, together with a host of clinical experts with access to one of the world's largest and most population diverse databases of verified patient CT scan data have all contributed to Medicsight's sophisticated industry leading technology. The performance of Medicsight's products is validated through an extensive clinical research programme in collaboration with leading centres around the world.
