To date, Medicsight have focused product development around areas of greatest clinical need and have concentrated on two disease areas – colorectal and lung cancer. These conditions are the leading causes of premature death in the western world and between them are responsible for over 8.5 million premature deaths globally.

There is increasing evidence in both areas to suggest that early detection leads to improved patient outcomes and greater life expectancy and for this reason, Medicsight have invested in developing ColonCAD™ and LungCAD™. These two applications for the analysis of CT scan data can help radiologists detect suspicious indicators of disease at the earliest possible stage. Medicsight's CAD software automatically highlights suspicious lesions on CT scans of the colon and lung, thereby detecting possible malignant tumours at an earlier stage when treatment is more likely to be successful.

As well as answering a clinical need with its CAD products, Medicsight have acknowledged the needs of the imaging clinician with the development of MedicRead Colon - a 3D visualisation system for image analysis that incorporates ColonCAD™ and is designed to improve workflow and productivity.

The growth of both Multi Detector CT (MDCT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in the last five years has had an enormous effect on clinical radiology. The massive increase in the amount of data that an interpreting clinician has to review and the variety of new types of study that can be undertaken using these advanced technologies has created serious challenges.

CAD is recognised as being a leading innovative technology that can make a significant difference in helping deal with some of the productivity challenges faced by clinicians today. However, CAD solutions rely on reviewing clinicians having ready access to complementary visualisation software and advanced 3D workstations integrated with CAD for the review and interpretation of patient data.
